I cannot start writing my Phd dissertation?

It has been almost 7 blank months for me. I could not start writing my PhD dissertation during this time. The deadline for my PhD dissertation is getting near and I equally get under pressure. I remember working on my research proposal day and night, like it happens to me most of the time to pursue an activity fanatically once I start it. I don’t what distracted me and I lost the tempo. Each day self-reproach and guiltiness eat me from within, but when I sit to write something I fail to write even a single sentence. So many diversions and excuses block my way. For example, sometime the temptation to go out and enjoy the nice weather takes me in, and sometime the idea of movie-watching pulls me. Other diversions include stock trading, newspaper reading, hanging out with friends, surfing the internet, etc. I do not know how break my habits, how to get out of this situation and complete my PhD dissertation in timely manner. Please guide me elaborately.

You’ve been blank for 7 months. Perhaps you are overthinking it, do you think you could go see a psychologist and talk about whatever it is that’s holding you back.

A few months ago I saw a psychologist and I went for about a month or so and stopped because I got my problems solved. I haven’t been back since, sometimes you need to do that and talk to someone and get a different perspective.

You could try going to one for short-term and just get their advice. It sounds like you just need a break from the project. Try going on vacation or take a week or two and not think about it, do the things you want on your time off from it. And I mean not really think about it, since you’ve been doing that for the past 7 months.

After your vacation. Start taking baby steps. Write whatever comes up in your mind, it doesn’t have to be perfect, just write whatever comes out, because you can always go back and edit later. Write for 5 or ten minutes straight before you go out and enjoy the weather or decide to watch a movie.

Every few days try to do more towards your goal. Let baby steps become bigger steps in life. Set goals for yourself. Set rewards for yourself. Lets say you wrote 5 pages, so go out and have a fun night out with your friends as part of your reward. Or go shopping.
