High school course selection help?
I want to go to a good ivy league college, and I’ve read that you should take courses that sound good and admission officers will like. If I have to fill 3 and a half credits, which courses of the list below would you suggest? (the amount of credits is next to it)
painting I 1/2
printmaking I 1/2
3-D media I 1/2
web page design 1/2
entrepreneurship 1
stock market trading (online) 1/2
sports and entertainment marketing 1/2
creative writing 1/2
journalism 1/2
critical approaches to film and media study 1/2
hotel restaurant management 1/2
food service careers I 1
logic 1/2
forensics 1/2
Also, many college sites I’ve read say that you shouldn’t take physchology until you are in college. Do you think I should take something else instead of AP physchology?
It’s really important that you take classes that you enjoy, so that when you discuss how you’ve used your opportunities in high school in your college applications/interviews, admissions officers can see that you’ve been honing in on your passions.
Given that, I would recommend that you take:
Journalism – The ability to produce solid writing for wide audiences is a skill that most admissions officers look for.
Logic – This will help you think, reason, and write well so it should be a good foundation for many of the class that you’ll take at the university.
Entrepreneurship – This one is great because it demonstrates that you are preparing to be a leader, and that you are likely creative, independent, and motivated.
Web page design – This one is valuable, because it will give you skills that you can use to better disseminate the ideas that you’ll come up with in your studies.
Stock market trading – This is just generally give you skills that will help you be prosperous financial after college.
That’s 3 credits, why don’t you select something that you enjoy to fill the last 1/2 credit space…
Stay focused & follow your passions. I wish you the best of luck with your education endeavors!
